Do you remember the huge do it yourself trend from the 90’s? It seemed like all anybody wanted was to find their inner talent and prove they can do just about anything around the house. I am not sure exactly what happened to this trend since then but there has definitely been a decline in people’s interest in DIY projects over the past few years. I actually think this may be due to the fact that the field has matured in its nature. While during the early days of the do it yourself boom, people were convinced they should do just about anything around the house themselves and took on all jobs from plumbing to tiling as well as more esthetic jobs of decorating.
But I think most people now realize there is no point in doing everything around the house and in some cases you are better off bringing an expert. After all DIY projects should be fun, if you don’t enjoy it then what’s the point? I love doing certain things around the house especially in cases where I feel that I can add my own touch to things. That’s why I stick to projects like home decorating, taking care of my garden and I even built of few pieces of furniture in my house. But for larger jobs which also tend to be more generic and there is no added value by doing it myself (such as plumbing and certain repairs) I am not ashamed to call a professional and give up doing it myself.
